if i am ever at brunch on a beautiful sunny day somewhere in san fran or nyc and i happen to say 'this is the greatest city ever' than just simply call me dilusional. paris is the greatest city to which i have been. the scale of the city, the pristine and omnipresent architecture, the steak-tartare and the museum scene is an unbeatable combination. parisians are cool. the vibe of paris just makes you thankful to be alive sippin vino, cafe chillin and just breathing it in.  and thanks be to the germans for not destroying this grand place during ww2 which i am sure they could have.  and thanks be to momma wolmut who joined us for 3 days for her first ever visit to paris, and for keeping up with us on a torrid pace of exploration. i am making it a life goal to own an apartment in this great city one day. i want to jog along the seine river and look up at notre dame. i want to rent city bikes and ride through the tuileries gardens beside the louvre. i want to sit at a cafe in the rain wistfully contemplating nothing at all.  it's just a magnificent place to spend time. i don't regret all our adventuring and getting to see as much as we have on this trip but a small part of me wishes to have merely rented an apartment for 6 months and lived the dream here in paris.

how to numb the pain of turning 30: spend your birthday in the best city in the world, paris!  the city of light is my absolute favorite place on earth.  it is one of those places that still delights, inspires and captivates you no matter how many times you have been.  i have a long list of faves that i hit everytime i go, but still always manage to find new gems on each visit.  this time i discovered the fab l'orangerie museum (full of monet waterlillies),  the hipster canal st martin neighborhood and a trip to roland garros to take in the french open. and we got to experience life as a parisian by renting the cutest apartment in st germaine.  we ended the week with a wonderful visit from emil's mom.  sunny picnics in the luxembourg gardens, shopping the marais, visiting the newly remodeled d'orsay musee all added up to 10 perfect days in paris...c'est bon!

  1. Happy Birthday Laurel! I realized that I am a secret blog hoarder. I read your blog ALL the time and have shared it with so many people. However, I haven't once told you how wonderful you pictures, writing and experiences are to ingest... in my office... sitting at my desk. (moment of self loathing).

I've LOVED getting to travel with the two of you. Just once, you may have to share a story of how you almost killed each other... because the ease of your trip is what is the most remarkable to me. Are you human?!

Happy birthday... and I'd be thrilled with a victory lap of the world if you all have it in you. It's been delightful to be your travel buddy!
